CBC Happenings

Welcome to the CBC Happenings Page, where we discuss what's been
happening at the Calvary Baptist Church. Recently God has blessed us with some new property, new vehicles and new construction! Look at what God has done for us!

Our Third Annual Public Servant Appreciation Sunday occured on August 26, 2007!

Update 6-29-07: Brush Clearing and Demolition has begun on our new property!

Recently, God laid it on our Pastor's heart to replace the existing stairs at one entrance to the church buildings with a new concrete porch. The people came together and gave, and we now have a beautiful porch area to gather on, and to come in and out.

Because of the way our buildings are situated on our property, it seems like we are putting a "front porch" on the back of the building. In actuality, after we put this porch on by faith, God answered a long-term prayer request by allowing us to purchase a piece of real estate adjacent to a major road! Here are some pictures of the new acreage!

For those of you that aren't familiar with our layout, the area outlined in green is our current property. The area connected to the green, and outlined in white, is the new purchase. The road running diagonally along the bottom of the map, separating our new property from a graveyard, is German Hill Road, a main road running through Dundalk. You can see that there are four buildings on the property currently; three of them will be torn down immediately, in addition to the overgrown and unkept trees, to make way for a driveway and some new sports fields. There are two houses on the property currently.
At long last, we have a sign on German Hill Road!

This green house is the middle of the three buildings shown on the map. It will have to be torn down.

This garage will also have to go. It is the building on the far left side of the property, when facing it from the road. It is in good condition, but is situated right in the path of the new driveway!
This dilapidated greenhouse, and the surrounding brush and trees, will have to go before we can have soccer and volleyball matches out here!

This photo show almost exactly where the new driveway will be....yes that means right through the center of that garage!

If this brush weren't there, you would be able to see our old property from here!
This brick home will be staying up for a while, until we get ready to build our new auditorium.
This photo, taken from the porch of the green house, shows the view down the field; we own all the property to those townhomes in the background, except for a small alleyway right alongside them.

A closer view of the field.

We hired Don's Services to come in and clear all the brush and scrap metal, and demolish the garage, and two other buildings.

Once all the brush is cleared, the buildings will be easily visible from the new property. In the photo on the left, you can barely see our bus garage, and of course, on the right you can see the steeple rising high up on the main building. If you live in the Dundalk area and are interested in this product, we ask that you refrain from walking onto the jobsite; it is an active construction area. Feel free to drive by and examine the progress, or just stay tuned to the website; new photos are coming in all the time!
6-29-07 Update: Things are moving quickly! Most of the brush is gone, and it won't be long before the houses will be torn down! This update also includes a wide shot from a graveyard up on the hill opposite our property.

Sunday, August 26, 2007 was our Third Annual Public Servant Appreciation Sunday! We invited attorney David Gibbs III, from the Baptist Law Association, to come preach for us, and we enjoyed the company of former Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. as well as over 80 public servants and visitors from all walks of life. With the help of the Outback Steakhouse in Canton, we were able to give out 88 gift certificates valued at $50 each. Please join us as we remember those who work for us each and every day!

The Gentleman sitting on the end with his son is Mr. Mark Hutchins, the owner of the Outback Steakhouse in Canton. This is the second year in a row that the Outback has sponsored our event.
Some of Baltimore's Finest: Members of the Eastern District were on hand while on duty! On the back row, right-hand side is Steve Fisher, one of our faithful members.
Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr addressing the assembly. He spoke about the necessity of each person being a public servant, whether that was their career or not.
Attorney David Gibbs III gave the sermon, where he reminded all of us that only when we serve those who have nothing to give us in return, do we truly serve the Lord.
